One of the most beloved aspects of any acting workshop is the cool down. The cool down is better than the warm up because you already did all the work, and now it's time to close your eyes and visualize. If you are part of an acting class that does not include either of these processes, get out! You're obviously working with hacks.
The purpose of an acting workshop is to keep you up to steam acting-wise. It is to provide you with new skills and make sure you don't forget the old ones. You will only get out of an acting workshop what you put into it. Most instructors design their acting workshop based upon a set schedule, working on certain methods, building cumulatively towards a conclusive final project or assignment. If you are late, miss classes, or are not all there during the classes, much of the planned impact of what the teacher had in mind will be lost.
The moral of the story is that one acting workshop could magically change you into a halfway decent actor, not necessarily a halfway decent person, but that would be asking a lot of your average acting workshop. That is not to say that an acting workshop that could actually make you a better person doesn't exist, it's just more rare that one might have that dramatic an impact on your life, although making you a better actor does make you a slightly better person.
